* James' daughter used to race cross-country and MotoX when there were not many females in the sport. In order to encourage more women and girls to participate James decided not to charge them for riding at Thundercross.
** Quads are welcome on the Learners and the B Track. Single riders only; no doubling up No children allowed on adult-sized bikes. Riders must be appropriate age/size for the manufacturers' guidelines.
***UTVs are welcome at Thundercross. Drivers of UTVs must be over 16 and hold a current, full NZ driving licence.
Dirt Bike Hire

Bring your own bike or we can hire you a dirt bike to suit your size and experience.
If you can ride a two-wheel pedal bike confidently; stopping/starting/steering and braking, you can ride a dirt bike. From approximately 5 years upwards; our most senior hirer is 80 years old!
No motorcycle licence or experience necessary. (Tuition available for a separate fee) We carry the Adventure Mark safety accreditation and James is NZ's most experienced dirt bike coach, so you will be in good hands. Our experienced Thundercross team will look after you.
All the protective gear you need to ride safely at Thundercross is provided and is part of the bike hire fee: shirt, pants, boots, gloves, goggles and chest protector. (Bike and all protective gear are commercially washed after each hire).
Hire price includes 1 bike hire for the day, all protective gear, Park fee & fuel*. Prices shown below include gst. Please note that a booking fee of 1.95% & credit card fee, if applicable, plus a 50% fully refundable Bond will be added to the costs at the time of booking and are displayed as Taxes & Fees on the booking page. This Bond is refundable the week after hire.
*Prices quoted are for one whole day's hire. We do not offer hourly hire nor half-days. This is not a 'couple of hours' experience that can be rushed. (Registration, induction and kitting-up take at least an hour). We have 750 acres of beautiful Park to ride in; relax, enjoy, bring a picnic and make a day of it.
Hire bikes are allocated per individual rider, according to size and experience. In the interests of safety, they are not to be shared, swapped or ridden by anyone other than the designated rider.
Please book your hire bike well in advance. We do not take bookings on the day and would hate you to have a wasted journey. To make a booking please go to the "Booking" tab at the top of this page.
TUITION
James, is a champion rider and NZ's most experienced dirt bike coach. He and our experienced Thundercross Team offer a range of training, from basic riding skills to advanced coaching. Bring your own bike or hire one of ours!
If you are a beginner, we recommend two hours' tuition to maximize your safety, comfort and enjoyment. Please note we will not hire a bike to beginners without at least one hours' tuition from us.
Whatever your skill level, be it total beginner riding for the first time, or a more experienced rider wanting to advance your skills with personalized training, you have come to the right place. James is New Zealand's most experienced dirt bike coach; you will be in good hands. All tuition is taken at your own pace, with no pressure.
If hiring a bike, tuition fees are in addition to the bike hire and coaching must be booked at the same time as the hire bike.

We have 19 hire bikes to suit all ages, sizes and experience. No motorcycle licence or experience necessary.

Note - Taxes & Fees:
1. Hire prices are inclusive of GST, which will be added at 15% per hire & included in the Taxes & Fees.
2. A Bond of 50% per hire is added at the time of Booking and is also included in Taxes and Fees. This Bond is fully refundable during the week following hire, once the bikes have been cleaned and checked.
COVID-19 GUARANTEE:
If you have made a booking at Thundercross Valley Dirt Bike Park and your travel plans are affected by New Zealand or Australian Government enforced travel restrictions or Alert Level changes, we can provide a 100% refund on your booking. Alternatively, we can move your booking to another date or transfer the value of your booking to a Gift Voucher valid for 12 months.

Please note, due to COVID-19 restrictions, Thundercross reserves the right to adapt our visitor policies in order to ensure we can comply with NZ Government restrictions of operation.
To protect the health and safety of our staff and customers, the Thundercross team reserve the right to deny entry to our venue to any persons and groups exhibiting any potential COVID-19 symptoms (including but not exclusive to fever, cough and shortness of breath). If you or someone in your group are experiencing symptoms, please advise our staff immediately via phone or email before arriving onsite.
BOND:
Hireage of gear and bikes is subject to our Terms and Conditions including a fully-refundable bond of 50% which is payable at the time of booking and is included in Taxes & Fees on your booking confirmation. It is rare that we need to deduct anything from your bond for damages and, should this be necessary, it will be by prior notification. The Bond is refunded to your credit card or nominated bank account, depending how you paid for the hire, during the week following hire. We are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays (as that is our weekend), so it will be Wednesday at the earliest before your Bond is refunded; that gives us time to check, clean and maintain all the bikes.

Riders who are riding both days at the Park are welcome to camp at Thundercross. By prior arrangement only. Bookings essential. You must book in advance by telephoning Mandy on 0277331199.

Minimum PPE Requirements
Helmet and proper motocross boots (including unloading and loading bikes). NON-NEGOTIABLE.
Gummies, steel toe caps, trainers or any other form of footwear are unacceptable. This is in the interests of your own safety.
We have boots & helmets for hire @ $10 each, subject to availability.
2nd Hand Kit
In the interests of helping riders get their own gear, we are running a sale facility where by riders can bring their old gear in clean, good condition to us marked with the price and your phone number. We will then sell on your behalf.
